BULDO® Weighted fishing technique #1 "Cast off across the width of a river" from Dominique
Oval-shaped lead Buldo OP1, OP2, OP3
Assemble the Buldo depending on the width of the river so as to have a larger reach towards the opposite river bank. Use the Buldo OP1 3gr tackle for shorter widths, the Buldo OP2 5gr assembly for medium widths, and the Buldo OP3 10gr for wider rivers. The orange tip on the float is on the reel side at 18/100 from the lead side (reverse of tackle), use a tippet of 16/100 between 60 to 80cm depending on the depth of the water. Use a no. 10 hook. Bait: live bait, earthworms, and maggots.
The fishing technique
Cast off downstream, letting the Buldo float to the desired location and then reel in to 3/4 of the distance and allow it to return several times after having cast from right to left. Generally, if the fly is not right at the first attempt, the second will be fine. “I really appreciate this technique as it easily allows for an entire zone to be explored without having to re-cast the line each time”, explains Dominique !
BULDO® Weighted fishing technique #2 "Use the natural current of the river" from Dominique
Oval-shaped lead Buldo OP1, OP2, OP3
The 15 to 20 cm tippet is directly assembled onto the leader, using a clip or rolling swivel with pearl blocked at each end by two stop-floats at 30 or 40 cm. Use the OP1 3gr for weak currents, the OP2 5gr for a medium strength current, and the OP3 or 4 (10 or 15gr) for a strong current.
The fishing technique
The line needs to be cast off in front and allowed to extend, the current will do the rest. Once fully cast out, reel in the line slowly. "The entire pleasure of using the oval-shaped lead Buldo then takes shape". Assembled on a moucelle, it is possible to create a zigzag motion as if a fish was attacking its prey. It is then that “they begin to bite!”. “This is a technique which I really appreciate in summer when the water levels are low or when trout bite. Many surprises and much pleasure are guaranteed with this technique”.
BULDO® Weighted fishing technique #3 "Dual impact: lure and float" from Dominique
Oval-shaped lead Buldo OP6
The principle is identical to that of the first tackle, except the lead Buldo is used at sea. Attach the oval-shaped Buldo OP6 30gr, with orange tip towards the reel, on a line of 35/100. Attach a tippet of 28/100 from 1 metre to 1.5 metres with a no. 5 or no.6 eye hook depending on the bait.
The fishing technique
As with the first technique, cast off, and then allow the fly to float to explore the desired zone. Logically, the return should be faster as we are at sea. “I was completely taken aback at how good the Buldo OP6 could be. I had the impression I was using a surface lure which always does the job. I had a float and lure at the same time, guaranteeing a full basket! It is a delight, really offering a lot of pleasure. In conclusion, the oval-shaped lead Buldo 6 brings nothing but pleasure: a very satisfying compromise between a float and lure”.
